8 Songs That Will Lift Your Spirits | Iowa United Methodist Foundation
March 28, 2020 | By Amanda Jensen
Right now, things are uncertain and it is hard, frustrating and scary, but as Christians, we have faith in Him. Below are eight songs that deal with overcoming hardships and believing in His strength that will hopefully help lift your spirits during this time.
1. Waymaker – Michael W. Smith ft. Vanessa Campegna
“Even when I can’t see that you’re working, even when I don’t feel that you’re working, you never stop, you never stop working. Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who you are.”
2. Shoulders – for KING & COUNTRY
“When confusion’s my companion and despair holds me for ransom, I will feel no fear. I know that You are near. When I’m caught deep in the valley with chaos for my company, I’ll find my comfort here ’cause I know that You are near.”
3. Stronger – Influence Music, Matt Gilman
“‘Cause You make us stronger. You win every battle. God, when You rise up, enemies scatter. Mighty defender, comforting Father. You take our weakness and You make us stronger.”
4. Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) – Hillsong UNITED
“Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me, You’ve never failed and You won’t start now. So I will call upon Your name and keep my eyes above the waves. When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace. For I am Yours and You are mine.”
This is my all-time favorite gospel song so I had to add it to the list. It reminds me that no matter what I’m going through and no matter what fear I feel, I can “keep my eyes above the waves” and find help there.
5. No Longer Slaves – I AM THEY
“I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a child of God.”
6. Ain’t No Grave – Bethel Music, Molly Skaggs
“Fear is a tyrant, he’s always telling me to run. But love is resurrection and love is a trumpet sound. Love is my weapon, I’m gonna take my giants down.”
6. Rescue – Lauren Daigle
“I hear you whisper underneath your breath. I hear your SOS, your SOS. I will send out an army to find you in the middle of the darkest night. It’s true, I will rescue you. I will never stop marching to reach you in the middle of the hardest fight. It’s true, I will rescue you .”
7. Raise a Hallelujah – Bethel Music, Jonathan David Helser, Melissa Helser, Molly Skaggs, Jake Stevens
“I’m gonna sing, in the middle of the storm. Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar. Up from the ashes, hope will arise. Death is defeated, the King is alive.”
8. O Come All Ye Faithful
For all the Christmas season lovers out there – Christmastime generally puts people in a good mood so why not add a Christmas song to this list?
“Come and behold Him, born the Kind of Angels! O come let us adore him.”
